dogleg attack

dogleg attack
A deception tactic in which one helicopter or scout aircraft guides either another helicopter or a strike aircraft to attack the target without the latter acquiring the target either visually or electronically. A helicopter or aircraft acting as a scout acquires the target and transmits the target data to the strike aircraft/helicopter that is holding in a radar shadow area. The latter programs and launches its air-to-surface missile. This missile then flies a preprogrammed dogleg course and hits the target. This confuses the local surface-to-air weapons or sensors.
